The Best Football Pitches in Sharjah
A no-nonsense review based on hundreds of matches we have played across the emirate.
Across the year we book somewhere between 250 and 350 football matches in Sharjah. That gives us a pretty informed opinion about which pitches deliver, which ones disappoint, and which ones are worth the extra dirhams. Here is the honest breakdown.
1. Al Majaz turf cages
Reliable, well-lit, easy to reach. Surface holds up well in summer. Parking gets tight after 7 PM. Score: 8.5/10.
2. Muweilah 7- and 11-a-side
Big pitches, fair price, regular maintenance. Best for proper 7-a-side and weekend 11-a-side matches in Sharjah. Score: 9/10.
3. Al Khan turf
Probably the best lighting in central Sharjah. Slightly older turf, but great atmosphere. Family-friendly area. Score: 8/10.
4. Al Nahda / Al Qasimia caged pitches
Newer turf, good for technical 5-a-side. Crowded around 9 PM but bookings are reliable. Score: 8/10.
5. University City full-size pitches
The closest you will get to a real match-day feel without paying premium club rates. Saturdays only. Score: 9/10.
6. Industrial Area late-night
Underrated. Temperature is bearable even in July, and parking is never an issue. Worth the late kick-off. Score: 7.5/10.
7. Indoor air-cooled pitches
Essential in summer. Smaller surface, fast game, premium price. Score: 8/10 in season, 6/10 outside summer.
What to look for in a Sharjah football pitch
- Surface: 3G or 4G FIFA-grade turf. Avoid worn rubber-crumb pitches with bald patches.
- Lighting: minimum 200 lux for evening play; 500+ for proper matches.
- Parking: safe, well-lit, no risk of getting blocked in.
- Water and toilets: non-negotiable, especially in summer.
- Booking reliability: the venue should never double-book your slot. Cancel once, fine. Cancel twice, we drop them.
